Tap the New Player button, choose Pokémon Trainer Club, and sign in using your Pokémon Trainer Club account username and password. After you sign in, a new game of Pokémon GO will begin.

Come home, try to log into my Trainer Club account, 500 errors all over. Looks like the Pokemon servers can't handle all the activity. This is also why you may have an easier time logging in with a Google account/Apple account, since those use different authentication servers (and seemingly have much stronger servers to handle the load).
